Firstly, let me say I'm an amateur bird-watcher. I like birds, but then I like all animals, except certain insects, but that's not important. I like birds because they are often a challenge to photograph, especially the smaller ones. They are not inclined to sit still while you adjust your camera for the perfect shot. The same can be said for all smaller, shyer animals. But I am up to the challenge, on of my major long term goals being to catch a bee-eater in flight (any other flamboyantly-coloured bird will do just as well). Which brings me to my next point.
